Hebridean Archaeology Course
A Gaelic heritage and archaeology residential short course will take place on the Hebridean island of South Uist at the end of October, 2015. The course, run by Ceòlas Uibhist, will explore Uist's archaeological record, from Neolithic chambered cairns to Jacobite castles, guided by some of the leading scholars in the field.
Professor Niall Sharples (Cardiff University), Professor Hugh Cheape (Sabhal Mòr Ostaig) and Dr Rebecca Rennell (UHI) will lead tours around the landscapes of the Hebrides, retelling local legends and bringing the past alive.
The residential course will be based at Boisdale House, an 18th century listed building situated in the heart of South Lochboisdale, known locally as *Gleann na Ceòlraidh* ('the Glen of Musicality'). Evening entertainment will be provided by local members of the Uist community, renowned for its musical inheritance, and will include traditional cèilidhs, dances, Gaelic song nights, and folklore.
